Today we want to look at - “DREAMS FROM THE DEVIL!” In Numbers 12:6 God said, “Hear now My Words: If there be a prophet among you, I the Lord will make Myself known unto him in a vision, and will speak unto him in a dream.”
How can we recognize the dreams from the devil? Dreams from the devil have certain characteristics in common:
1. They bring fear and torment: Dreams from the devil have at the background fear and torment. The moment the fear of the unknown steps in, you can be sure that that dream is from the devil. Sometimes you fast and pray and cancel the dream, yet it torments you the more. The devil is terrifying and paralyzing you with fear so that he can penetrate into your life. Fear opens all the doors into your life to the devil. But faith closes all such doors to the devil.
When I say, “My bed shall comfort me, my couch shall ease my complaint; 14 Then thou scarest me with DREAMS, and terrifiest me through visions: 15 So that my soul chooseth strangling, and death rather than my life” (Job 7:13-15).
Any dream which makes you to have some fear, anxiety or pains is from the devil.
2. Dreams from the devil are filthy: Immoral dreams, dirty places, despising the dominion of the Lord, Jesus Christ are all from the devil.
“Likewise also these FILTHY DREAMERS defile the flesh, despise dominion, and speak evil of dignities” (Jude 8).
3. Dreams from the devil say things that contradict the Word of God. Also, if any dream suggests something that is contrary to the Word of God, that dream is from the devil. For instance, you had a dream where you married a second wife.
4. Dreams from the devil do not come to pass. “He shall fly away as a dream, and shall not be found: yea, he shall be chased away as a vision of the night” (Job 20:8).
5. Satan attacks people in their dreams! The problems in the lives of most people start with instances of satanic dreams. There are instances of people having quarrels, interactions and activities while sleeping, and when they wake up they find marks as evidences of the quarrels, activities and interactions on their body. These instances cannot be called dreams, but direct satanic attacks, manipulations and high-class oppressions by the hosts and agents of darkness.
Satan uses dreams to influence and control people against their will and the will of God. Satan uses dreams to hold people in bondage, making people’s lives miserable. You must therefore, quickly reject such dreams that are contrary to the Word of God.
This makes people not to be in full control of their lives, senses, programmes, activities, developments and progress.
Satan exercises a satellite control over the minds of men and women. He flashes pictures, thoughts, ideas and suggestions into human minds.
These flashes pollute and mislead people. The aim is to ensure that those who do not know what goes on may begin to act according to those thoughts, ideas, pictures and suggestions.
Satan makes the victims to feel that the suggestions in the dreams he sends are from God, so that they can confidently follow them. You must therefore, quickly reject any dreams that are contrary to the Word of God.
6. Dreams can be caused by dreamers. These are dreams that you caused to be dreamt. A lot of dreams come as a result of the dreamers thought in the daytime – what he desires or what he is anxious about. If you think about an opposite sex in a lustful manner before you sleep, you may end up having an immoral dream.
God said, “Let not your prophets and your diviners, that be in the midst of you, deceive you, neither hearken to your dreams which ye cause to be dreamed” (Jer. 29:8).
Ecclesiastes 5:3a says, “As a dream comes when there are many cares, so the speech of a fool when there are many words.”
“For in the multitude of dreams and many words there are also divers vanities…” (Eccl. 5:7, KJV).
The Bible is saying that some dreams come through a multitude of businesses, that is, your thoughts, actions, and discussions before you slept can influence your dream.
For instance, people who watch pornographic films and pictures or whose thoughts are immoral are likely to dream about such in their dreams. In a similar manner, someone who was hungry before going to bed may easily dream about food. On the positive side, someone who is fasting and praying for a crusade or an evangelistic meeting, is more likely to dream about multitudes being won into the Kingdom of God.
If your mental picture is not sound, you can have dreams arising from your subconscious mind. These may come from confusing issues which you may have suppressed without full handling. Such issues may flash back to your mind while sleeping.
It may even be projections of your meditations that may appear to you while sleeping.
7. You may have dreams based on your present accommodation! If the flat or room where you live was formerly occupied by an occultist, herbalist, witch or wizard, bad dreams can arise.
8. You can also have dreams because of your present location. Places where suicides or murders have been happening can be centers of bad dreams. Such places are frequently infested with bad dream generating scenes, activities and spirits.
9. An area where there are many occult activities and festivals can often generate bad dreams. For instance, if you sleep in a house built in or near the square for masquerades – called “iro-mmanwu.”
10. There are other sources of bad dreams: Searching or craving for hidden matters, secret, dark or mysterious issue may open you up to bad dreams. Commitment to a society (e.g. AMORC, Ekankar etc.), club, occult meetings can expose you to ungodly dreams.
11. Folklores also expose people to bad dreams. Folklore is the traditional beliefs, customs, and stories of a community, passed through the generations by the word of mouth.
12. Watching magic shows or medicine men while displaying their arts of witchcraft exposes one to terrible dreams. Watching pornography, horror films, attending cinemas exposes one to miserable dreams.
When you watch any of the above, you directly and indirectly open yourself unconsciously through imaginations, thoughts, fears, feelings and emotions to evil dreams and satanic oppressions.
To have imaginations or see pictures you cannot control while sleeping is bad and this can bring confusion into your life.
Today, if you desire to see and know whatever happens around you spiritually, then you must give yourself to fasting, prayer, and meditating on God’s Word.
