Today, I am speaking on “THE GOD OF WONDERS.”
Daniel 6:25-27 says, “…26 I make a decree, That in every dominion of my kingdom men tremble and fear before the God of Daniel: for he is the living God, and steadfast forever, and His Kingdom that which shall not be destroyed, and His dominion shall be even unto the end. 27 He (a) delivereth and (b) rescueth, and (c) HE WORKETH SIGNS AND WONDERS (1) in heaven and (2) in earth, who hath delivered Daniel from the power of the lions.”
The Psalmist says, “Sing a new song to the Lord, for He has done wonderful deeds…!” (Ps. 98:3).
Isaiah 25:1 says, “O Lord, thou art my God; I will exalt thee, I will praise thy name; for thou hast done wonderful things; thy counsels of old are faithfulness and truth.”
You will sing a new song to the LORD today because He will do wonders in your life now, in Jesus’ name.
Too many people in the world today are going through one storm or the other. But the truth is that the storms of life come to everybody. They may come in the form of sickness, financial difficulty, barrenness, fear, family problems etc.
Proverbs 10:25 says, “When the storms of life come, the wicked are whirled (swept) away but the godly have a lasting foundation.”
You should realize that it is not these storms of life that defeat you, but your reactions to them.
Listen to the cry of a certain person in deep trouble: “I sink in deep mire…” (Ps. 69:2, 14).
That could be your situation right now but God has promised saying, “Many are the afflictions of the righteous, but the LORD delivers him out of them all…” (Ps. 34:19-20).
I therefore, decree and declare that that same God that delivered Daniel from the power of the hungry lions will deliver you from the hands of poverty. He will deliver you from the hands of sickness. He will deliver you from the hands of kidnappers. He will deliver you from the hands of fear. He will deliver you from the hands of failure. He will deliver you from the hands of inferiority complex. He will deliver you from the hands of the devil, in Jesus’ name.
To understand the God of wonders we should realize that:
i. That problem which is causing you to weep has an end. It is only temporal. Psalm 30:5 says, “Weeping may endure for a night, but joy comes in the morning.”
ii. That trouble must end one day. Proverbs 23:18 says, “For surely there is an end; and thine expectation shall not be cut off.”
iii. That the end of that your condition is now. Why? In 2 Corinthians 6:1-2 Jesus said, "…Behold, NOW is the accepted time; behold, NOW is the DAY OF SALVATION.”
But for this to be true in your life, you must first of all recognize that the only way out of your problem is “the God of Wonders.” Secondly, you must see God as He really is – the God of wonders.
Who is the God of wonders? He is the one that does wonders. Exodus 15:11 says, “Who is like unto thee, O Lord, among the gods? Who is like thee, glorious in holiness, fearful in praises, DOING WONDERS?”
He not only does wonders but He does great wonders. Psalm 77:14 says, “You are the God of great wonders...” (NLT).
What is a wonder? A wonder is something that amazes you. A wonder is something that astonishes you.
In talking about THE GOD OF WONDERS, we should remember that:
1. God Himself is a wonder. Why? This is because each time God changes position, you’ll see something new. For instance: The four beasts in the midst of the throne, and round about the throne of God shouted and still do shout holy each time God turned (Rev. 4:8).
In Revelations 5:1-9 the Bible says, “He is a Lamb. And at the same time He is a Lion.” That is a wonder!
2. What is the size of our God? He is so big, and yet small enough to dwell in the regenerated spirit of man. That is a wonder!
2 Chronicles 6:18 says, “But will God in very deed dwell with men on the earth? Behold, heaven and the heaven of heavens cannot contain thee; how much less this house which I have built!”
Yes! Heaven and even the heaven of heavens cannot contain Him because the whole universe came out from Him. What a big God we serve! Yet, He makes Himself small enough to reside in our spirit-man. Amazing! This is a wonder!
In Isaiah 66:1 God said, “…Heaven is My throne, and the earth is My footstool: where is the house that ye build unto (for) Me? And where is the place of My rest?”
Yet, in 1 John 4:4, He compresses Himself so much to become small enough to dwell in our spirit-man. 1 John 4:4 says, “…greater is He that is in you, than he that is in the world.”
3. Our God is immortal and invisible. Yet He can be found. That is a wonder!
First Timothy 1:17 says, “Now unto the King eternal, IMMORTAL, INVISIBLE, the only wise God, be honour and glory forever and ever. Amen.”
Yet, in Proverbs 8:17 the Bible says that He can be found. “…those that seek Me early shall find Me” (Prov. 8:17).
4. Not only is He a wonder, but His name is WONDERFUL. Isaiah 9:6 says, “For unto us a child is born, unto us a son is given: and the government shall be upon His shoulder: and His name shall be called WONDERFUL, Counsellor, The mighty God, The everlasting Father, The Prince of Peace.”
The word Wonderful = WONDER + FULL. That means that Jesus is full of wonder! Jesus is Amazing! Jesus is Incredible! Jesus is Awesome!
5. Our God performs wonders in Heaven and in the earth. Daniel 6:25-27 says, “…27 He delivereth and rescueth, and HE WORKETH SIGNS AND WONDERS (1) in heaven and (2) in earth, who hath delivered Daniel from the power of the lions.”
Here is the point: When the situation facing you appears to be humanly impossible, recognize that God is supernatural. He goes beyond the laws and the power of nature.
Psalm 77:14 says, “You are the God of great wonders! You demonstrate Your awesome power among the nations” (NLT).
6. He can do the impossible (Lk. 1:37). In Jeremiah 32:27 God said, “Behold, I am the Lord, the God of all flesh: is there anything too hard for Me?”
Exodus 15:11 says, “Who is like unto thee, O Lord, among the gods? Who is like thee, glorious in holiness, fearful in praises, DOING WONDERS?”
Mark 7:37 says, “The multitude were completely amazed and said again and again, "EVERYTHING HE DOES IS WONDERFUL. He even makes the deaf to hear and gives speech to those who cannot speak."
7. He can perform wonders for you. In Psalm 40:5 the Psalmist said, “O LORD my God, You have performed many WONDERS for us…”
a) He can perform wonders with the earth. In John 9:1-7 He healed a man that was born blind.
b) He performed wonders with the sand. He can perform wonders with water. In John 2:1-12, He turned water into wine.
In Ezekiel 37:1-10, He breathed on dry bones and the dry bones came alive again. In Genesis 2:7, He breathed into molded sand the breath of life and the sand became a living soul.
c) He can change failure into instant success (1 Kings 17:8-16).
d) He can make a way where men say there is no way (Ex 14). God made a way in the Red Sea for the children of Israel to cross in safety.
e) He can perform wonders for you (Ps. 40:5).
f) He can even turn you into a wonder (Acts 3:1-10). God turned a crippled man into a wonder such that people were filled with amazement (Acts 3:1-10).
This God made a 90 year old woman to conceive and give birth to Isaac (Rom. 4:17-21). Beloved, what will happen to you after today will cause people to gather in amazement.
g) God can perform wonders through you. God’s original plan is that you’ll be a carrier of His wonder working power.
For instance, in Exodus 14:21-28, it was Moses that lifted the rod in his hands and the Red Sea parted. Again, in Acts 19:11-12 God wrought special miracles by the hands of Paul, such that from his body were brought unto the sick handkerchiefs or aprons, and the diseases departed from them, and the evil spirits went out of them.
Conclusion: I challenge you to stop considering your condition, but consider what “the God of wonders” has promised you in His Word concerning that your aching situation, and then rest in His power and faithfulness. Watch out for the next edition of Good News from the Pulpit!
