ENEMIES TO FAITH (7) FAILURE TO HOLD FAST TO YOUR CONFESSION OF FAITH!

Many Christians have not realized the importance of speaking forth in every situation whatever God has said in His Word concerning them.

Consequently, many are living a life of mediocrity, a life of just enough (hand to mouth kind of life), failure and defeat because they have never realized the importance of confessing God’s Word and living according to what God has said in His Word concerning them.
They fill their minds with thoughts of assorted types of fears and failures. Majority of them, though sincere, are weak because they never dared confess their rights and privileges as New Creatures according to what God said in His Word concerning them.
One of the reasons is because they are ignorant of the spiritual law which states that a person is ruled by his/her words (confessions).
So today, we want to look at another major enemy of faith, “FAILURE TO HOLD FAST TO YOUR CONFESSION OF FAITH!”
The only fight the believer is called to fight is “the good fight of faith” (1 Tim. 6:12). To win in this battle of faith, you MUST hold fast to your confession of faith.
Hebrews 10:23 says, Let us hold fast the profession (confession) of our faith without wavering; (for He is faithful that promised)…”
What does it mean to hold fast to your confession of faith? To hold fast to your confession of faith means to speak forth in every situation whatever God has said in His Word concerning you with regards to that situation.
Failure to speak forth whatever God has said in His Word concerning your situation is a major enemy to faith.

The word confession does not just refer to the confession of sin as it is written, “If we confess our sins He is faithful and just to forgive us our sins and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness” (1 Jn. 1:9).
That is the negative side of confession. The Bible has much to say about the positive side of confession.  This is THE CONFESSION OF OUR FAITH or the speaking forth with our mouth whatever God has said in His Word concerning us.
In Romans 10:9-10 the Bible says, “That if you shall confess with thy mouth the Lord Jesus, and shall believe in thy heart (spirit-man) that God has raised Him from the dead, you shall be saved. For with the heart (spirit-man) man believeth unto righteousness, and with the mouth confession is made unto salvation.”
If you shall confess who? If you shall confess Jesus! This does not refer to confessing sin. This is confessing Jesus as Lord and Saviour. Jesus is the living Word of God (Jn. 1:1, 14).
Now repeat Romans 10:9, “That if you shall confess with your mouth the Lord Jesus (the Word of God)…”
Wait a minute! Do you mean the confession of the Word of God brings salvation, deliverance, healing etc.? Yes! That’s precisely what the Bible teaches.
It is written, “For with the mouth confession is made unto salvation……”  (Rom. 10:10). With his heart man believes and is therefore, made right with God. But with his mouth he confesses that Jesus is his Lord - he confesses unto salvation; he confesses whatever God has said in His Word concerning his very situation.
Many Christians maintain a wrong confession instead of holding fast to a right confession. Wrong confession will destroy your faith, and hold you in bondage
What is a wrong confession? A wrong confession is a confession that is contrary to the Word of God. It is a confession of defeat, failure, the fear of Satan, or the fear of what you think Satan is going to do to you. Therefore, with your mouth you either give God or Satan dominion over your life. The confession of your lips that has grown out of faith in your heart will absolutely defeat the devil in every combat.
What is true biblical confession? True biblical confession is a confession that is in line with the Word of God. It is repeating with your lips, from your heart, the things that God has said in His Word concerning you.
Speaking forth whatever God has said in His Word concerning your situation is what we call “biblical confession.”
Hebrews 4:14 says, Seeing then that we have A GREAT HIGH PRIEST, that is passed into the heavens, Jesus the Son of God, let us hold fast our profession (our confession of faith).”
Let us hold fast to saying the same thing. So get your attention focused on the right things, on the Word of God instead of on yourself or on the storms raging around you.
You should always consider what God has said in His Word concerning your situation.
This is how you fight the good fight of faith. You fight the good fight of faith by opening your mouth and speaking forth the Word of God that is hidden in your heart, that is, the very Word that God has said in His Word concerning your situation.
Don’t ever say what you have (sickness, poverty) but what God has said in His Word concerning your health, your prosperity. You simply say, “It is written…”
For instance, the Shunammite woman (2 Ki. 4:8-37). Notice that in spite of all odds, this woman maintained the right confession; she held fast to her confession of faith.
Even when her only child had died, she kept confessing what God promised in His Word concerning her situation – “It is well.”
She began this confession because of what God said in His Word, Say ye to the righteous, that it shall be well with him…” (Isa. 3:10).
This is so because at the end of the day God will cause all things to work together in your favour. “And we know that all things work together for good to them that love God, to them who are the called according to His purpose” (Rom. 8:28).
Speaking forth whatever God has said in His Word concerning you is the confession you are to hold fast to.
The more you confess your promised harvest, the faster your seed will sprout, and the faster your young plant can be like a tree planted by the rivers of water.
According to God’s Word, you are supposed to (1) read (study and memorize), (2) believe (accept as the truth and nothing but the truth), (3) obey, and then (4) speak forth the Word
When you confess what God says about you, irrespective of the situation on ground, those very words of faith are just as if they are coming from the mouth of God Himself. He promised that these signs shall follow them that believe… (Mk 16:17-18).
Jesus said, “He that believeth on Me, the works that I do shall he do also, and greater works than these shall he do” (Jn. 11:12).
He promised that, “If you have faith as a grain of mustard seed.., nothing shall be impossible unto you” (Matt. 17:20).
To walk in victory, you must never confess that anything is impossible to you. You don’t ever confess what you see. Rather you confess what you want to see.
And that which you want to see is that which God has said in His Word concerning your situation.
For instance, the woman with the issue of blood received her healing because she confessed that if she could just touch the helm of Jesus’ garment, that she would be made whole (Mk. 5).
The Israelites perished in the wilderness because they confessed that they would (Num. 13:31-33; Num.14:1-2; 28-29).
As you speak forth out of your mouth that which God has said in His Word concerning your circumstance, you are calling those things that be not as though they were (Rom. 4:17).
Here is the conclusion of the matter: Speaking forth whatever God has said in His Word concerning you, that’s the confession you are to hold fast to
When you know what God has said in His Word concerning your situation, think in line with that, believe and confess it, there will be no failure for you.
