WHAT IS HELL LIKE?

We have seen from the Scriptures that Hell is a real place. We have also seen that Hell is inside the earth. Today, we will be looking at “WHAT HELL IS LIKE.”

Nothing on earth can adequately describe hell! Hell is infinitely worse than anyone could think or imagine. Hell is beyond anything humanly imaginable! No nightmare could produce a terror to match that of hell. No horror movie could describe its fright. No crime scene with all its blood and gore could match its horror.

Here is what happens at physical death: as the spirit of the person going to hell detaches from his physical body, it moves out of the sick room, and then into space. Remember that the form of your spirit-man is in the shape of yourself here on earth.

Then, it will begin to descend, down, down, down into the lower regions through a very deep dark tunnel that leads to the center of the earth. The road to hell becomes darker and darker as you keep descending and soon everywhere will become so dark that you cannot see an inch away from your eyes, though you have the keenest eyesight. The blackness of hell is much more than that of the night.

The atmosphere, which has been warm, will suddenly become stifling hot and unbearable. The descent will then cease for a little while. From the lower regions there will ascend a weird-looking creature that had been sent to guide the lost soul for the remaining part of the journey to the lower kingdom. Together, the lost soul and the strange creature will continue to descend. And far below them is a huge demon. This demon is covered with flames of liquid fire.

Finally, the descent will cease as you come right up against this huge demon. At this point there will be a fierce struggle between the lost and the strange escort. Then, with a weird shriek, the lost soul will suddenly and swiftly be dropped downwards head-long into the wall of flames.

Long before you approach the gate of hell, you’ll hear so many souls groaning and shouting shouts of pain and anguish.

The surroundings before the gate of hell is very dry and lifeless, worse than any desert known to man here on earth, with no sign of life in any form whatsoever. There is no single tree or blade of grass or any living thing in sight.

As you approach the big rusty iron gate of hell, the gate opens on its own accord for you to enter.

After the major gate of hell, you’ll see several other tunnels leading to the different compartments. Hell has different sections with various levels of torments.

Hell is extremely large and appears to be expanding all the time. It has different sections with various levels of torments.

After the major gate of hell, you’ll see several other tunnels leading to the different compartments of hell and it appears to be expanding all the time.

Hell is a place of utmost darkness and the heat there cannot be measured. It is hotter than the hottest of fires. You cannot see any flames or the source of the heat but it is hot beyond measure.

In hell you’ll hear extremely terrible yelling of the damned souls. Hell is a terrible place of torments, excruciating pains and eternal sorrow.

In hell you’ll hear the high-pitched sharp piercing cries, groans, weeping, wailing, and curses of lost souls by their countless thousands.

In hell, you’ll hear the voices of millions and millions of souls endlessly shouting, crying, wailing, moaning, ironical and sarcastic laughter.

Hell is filled with flies of all sizes, green, black and grey flies. Every conceivable fly is there in hell.

How is the atmosphere in hell? The atmosphere is attended with a stink much more suffocating than that of burning brimstone. Hell is filled with the most disgusting stench. The smell is like that of a rotten or decaying flesh. The odour in hell is so offensive that it can make you sick to your stomach.

What do people in hell look like? Whenever a soul arrives in hell, that soul acquires the body of death. In hell the people look like skeletons.

Their bones are dark grey and extremely dry. They have long sharp teeth like that of wild animals. Their mouth is large and wide. Their tongues are bright red and long like that of a dog. Their hands and feet have long, thin toes and fingers with long, sharp nails. Some of them have tails and horns. Some have their tongues lying outside like dogs. Some, their eyeballs are like as if they are falling out from their sockets.

What do the faces of the people in hell look like? Their faces look older than their real age because of their unimaginable torments and sufferings.

Hell is like a Sea of liquid fire. People swim in the liquid dark red flames of hell.

Children, men, women, youths, educated, uneducated, rich, poor, are all there in hell in their numbers. All you will see in hell is misery, torment, sorrow and despair.

In Hell, you will be identified by the very sin that brought you there. Each inmate wears a metal plate on the chest on which is written the very sin that brought that person to hell.

There in hell, the demons mingle with the people. In appearance, some of the demons look like alligators, and they walk on four legs. They constantly tease and torment the people in hell.

The breathing of those in hell is that of gasping for air as one in his dying moment. They breathe as if they are drawing their last breathe. But this remains their state forever. Since there is no air in hell, what they actually breathe in and out is the burning flame of fire. Life in hell is that of absolute agony.

In hell, not only are the souls of lost men and women tormented by literal fire, but they are also tormented by the sins and evildoings that caused them to be lost in hell.

How are the bodies of the people in the different compartments of hell destroyed? Worms come in and out of their empty eye sockets, mouths and ears; and penetrate the skin all through their bodies (Isa. 66:24; Mk. 9:44).

The worms in hell pass through the holes of people’s eyes, come out from the mouth, enter again through the nose and exit through the eyes. When the worms cannot enter through the usual routes, they simply make a hole to enter the other parts of the body, and this causes indescribable pain.

What is the shape of hell? Hell is shaped like the human body, lying on her back in the center of the earth. It is very large. And it is divided into different sections of torments and sufferings. You’ll see sections for gambling, eternal dancing, and eternal drinking parties, homosexuals and drunkards.

There is the most terrible part of hell, where the worst torments happen – the center of hell. This is actually called the belly of hell.

Who are the people in the center of hell? The only people here are those who knew Jesus and the Word of God – pastors, evangelists, missionaries, and all types of people that had accepted Jesus and knew the truth, but lived a double life - backsliders. Their sufferings are a 1000 times worse than that of anyone else in hell (Lk. 12:48). There is no mercy, forgiveness or love in hell.

The souls in hell are tormented with an intolerable taste for water that cannot be satisfied in anyway.

The thing that takes people to hell is the very thing that torments them there continually throughout all eternity.

In hell, you’ll witness a form of religion. No worship of God, but a form of religion! These are people who, while on earth, had a form of religion but denied the power of the Gospel.

Does the fire of hell differ from domestic fire? The fire of hell differs from domestic fire in that it does not burn to ashes like the domestic fire. It is also hundreds of times hotter than the domestic fire. Sometimes it turns black completely. At other times, it is as red as oven. The fire of hell is as thick as a heavy cloud and rolls on its crest like a raging sea from its unknown depth to its immeasurable height.

Hidden away in its flames are people of different races and languages, whose sins escaped discovery in the world but became open scandals in the record above.

Is there class distinction in hell? There is no class distinction or racial prejudice in hell, because teenagers, young people and the aged are packed together inside it. The terror of the furnace is against them for anger.

As the fire keeps rolling from its far depth, their cry of sorrow and call for help reaches crescendo.

When hell roars and quakes, it takes those in its surface down to the bottom and vice versa.

Hell fire is vast and restless. You cannot see the other end of hell from the entrance. In hell, people writhe with fire and brimstone.

As hell emits heat beyond measure, its victims roll up and down, gnashing their teeth in the brutal liquid flame.

As they come up in its tumultuous tide, so they sink 1000 feet deep again, that for the next 30 to 40 minutes they are buried under this heavy flame.

Darkness instead of a ray of hope, hangs on their brows. They gnash their teeth in absolute extremities.

Terrible looking demons pierce the new arrivals with a hot dagger, just to place an immortal mark of welcome into the lasting sorrow on every new person just arriving hell.

From this sight, the victims continuously and desperately strive and struggle to escape, panting and shivering before the pointed edge that sinks deeply into the realm of veins and inflict unspeakable pain that lasts for months. The sores of the victims ooze blood right inside the fire, and those with fresh wounds keep on screaming and hissing like pine trees in agony.

There in hell, the tormenting spirits force flaming sulphur down the throat of its inmates. That was the case of a particular lady whom the tormenting spirit perpetually poured that flaming, infernal liquor down her throat because in her life time, though she had gold enough, could not be satisfied. So right now in hell, it is poured down her throat. She did not care who she ruined or undid, so she could get their gold. Since gold was her god on earth, is it not just that she should have her belly filled with horrid, stinking sulphur in hell?

Realize that the tormenting spirits had a glorious nature like the angels in Heaven before they rebelled with Lucifer against God. But after the rebellion their former comeliness and beauty changed to that horrid monstrous form in which they now appear, as the just punishment for their rebellious pride.

In hell, the tormenting spirits, with hellish fury pour liquid fire and brimstone continually on the people there. These groups of people are the ones that teach people in the world the right road to Heaven, while they themselves are so much in love with world that they eventually ended up in hell. The tormenting spirits in hell use their utmost diligence to give such people their utmost share of torments.

In hell, some people like those that were atheists when they were on earth, are flogged with whips of burning steel.

There in hell, you’ll see people lying on beds of burning steel, almost choked with brimstone.

Hell is a dark abode of misery, sorrow, and pain. People in hell are being punished with everlasting destruction.

The noise of horror and the screams of excruciating pains from the multitude in hell are continual.

Those who are companions on earth in sin shall be so too in hell in punishment. There in hell, such people that were friends in sin hate, accuse and curse each other ceaselessly. They accuse each other for being the cause of each other’s misery. And though on earth they loved the company of each other, they will not care for it in hell.

Satan has his throne in hell. There, in a sulphurous lake of liquid fire, bound with everlasting chains of Heaven’s fixed decree, sits Lucifer upon a huge enormous burning throne, his horrid eyes sparkle with hellish fury, as full of rage as his strong pains could make him.

He has big nails, and he laughs very sarcastically, and can’t stop laughing, because of all the souls that were arriving in hell. The lost souls keep falling into hell second after second, and Satan is so proud of this that he can’t stop laughing.

From his throne Lucifer vents his horrid blasphemies against God, and he delivers this with an air of arrogance and pride. Every blasphemy Lucifer belches against God makes hell hotter for him.

Hell is like gloomy caves (2 Pet. 2:4). Hell burns with sulphur (brimstone) (Lk. 16:24; Rev. 19:20, Rev. 20:15). Hell is a prepared place for the wicked (Matt. 25:41; Rev. 20:15). Hell is a place of eternal fire that will punish all who do evil (Mk. 9:43). Hell is thought of as a place of fire and darkness (Jude 7, 13). Hell is a place of weeping and grinding of teeth (Matt. 8:12; Matt. 13:42). Hell is a place of destruction (2 Thess. 1:7-9). Hell is a place of torment, place of total distress and misery (Rev. 14:10-11). Hell is a place where the fire is never quenched (Mk. 9:46). Those in hell have no rest both day and night (Rev. 14:11). Hell is a place where the worms do not die (Mk. 9:46).Hell is a place of him that knoweth not God (Job 18:21).

Beloved, no mortal man can adequately explain the horror of eternal burning, and the hopeless state of the lost in hell. But if you could see hell, it would not take a preacher to try to persuade you to quickly depart from worldliness and every other thing that is contrary to God’s Word.

Jesus said, “What will it profit a man, if he gain the whole world, and lose his soul” (Mk. 8:36). If you gained everything here in this world, but die and go to hell for all eternity, where the worms dieth not and the fire is never quenched, and you become abhorring to all flesh (Isa. 66:24), what sense does that make?
