THE GEOGRAPHICAL LOCATION OF HELL!

Many Christians go to hell because they refuse to do away with worldliness in their lives. How can you prefer the temporal to the eternal? The destination of everyone that loves the world is hell fire.

Jesus said, “For what shall it profit a man, if he shall gain the whole world, and lose his own soul? 37 Or what shall a man give in exchange for his soul?” (Mk. 8:36-37)

Last week, we proved from the Scriptures that Hell is a real place. If hell is a place as real as Abuja, where is it located in the universe? Is it in the air? Is it in the upward or downward direction? So today, we will be looking at “THE GEOGRAPHICAL LOCATION OF HELL.”

Where then is the geographical location of hell? The Bible is clear on this matter: hell is somewhere in the heart of the earth itself! It is also called 'the pit' (Isa. 14:9, 15: Ezek. 32:18-21) and 'the bottomless pit' (Rev. 9:2).

1. In Numbers 16, the Bible gives the account of people falling into hell alive! The Bible says, "And THE EARTH OPENED HER MOUTH, and swallowed them up, and their houses, and all the men that appertained unto Korah, and all their goods. They, and all that appertained to them, WENT DOWN alive INTO THE PIT, and the EARTH CLOSED UPON THEM:" (Num. 16:32-33).

This Scripture shows that hell is inside the earth! “They, and all that appertained to them, WENT DOWN alive….” (Num. 16:33).

2. Jesus said, “For as Jonas was three days and three nights in the whale's belly; so shall the Son of man be three days and three nights in the HEART OF THE EARTH” (Matt. 12:40).

3. The Bible says that when Jesus died on the Cross, His soul descended into hell (Eph. 4:8-10). In Acts 2:31, Peter said, “…seeing this before spake of the resurrection of Christ, that His soul was not left in HELL.”

4. The Bible emphatically locates Hell in the center of the earth. Hell is in the downward direction. “Hell from beneath is moved for thee to meet thee at thy coming…” (Isa. 14:9).

5. “Therefore hell hath enlarged herself, and opened her mouth without measure: and their glory, and their multitude, and their pomp, and he that rejoiceth, shall DESCEND into it” (Isa. 5:14).

6. Look at a patient’s description of Hell: Dr. Rawlings writes that patients who described hell said, “…this place seems to be UNDERGROUND or WITHIN THE EARTH in some way” (Beyond Death’s Door, pp. 85).

7. Scientist and Bible teacher, Henry Morris also agrees the Bible plainly teaches that hell is in this earth: The great 'pit' (hell) would only need to be about 100 miles or less in diameter to contain, with much room to spare, all the forty billion people who have ever lived, assuming their 'spiritual' bodies are the same size as their physical bodies" (Henry M. Morris, The Bible has the Answer, p. 220).

8. Nature magazine discovered in July 2002 what the Bible knew over 3,000 years ago. A report in Nature Magazine said, “Inside this earth is fire and brimstone.”

The center of the Earth is hotter than the sun’s surface! 

The Birmingham News, April 10, 1987 had an article entitled "Earth's center hotter than sun's surface, Scientists Say". The article stated that scientists have recently discovered that "THE EARTH'S INNER CORE HAS A TEMPERATURE OF OVER 12,000 DEGREES FAHRENHEIT!"

Have you seen pictures of a volcano erupting, spewing a lake of fire from inside the earth, consuming everything within miles just from the heat? When Mount St. Helens erupted in May 18, 1980, it was described by reporters, "when HELL surfaced upon the earth."

The book, Volcanoes, Earth's Awakening (p. 91) describes an erupting volcano as "descent into HELL."

Since Hell is in the heart of the earth, how far is it from the surface of the earth? The Earth’s crust on land is normally 50 miles (80 km) thick.

What is the earth’s crust? The earth’s crust is the outer layer of the earth, about 22 miles (35 km) deep under the continents, and 6 miles (10 km) deep under the oceans.

You would have to go down 50 miles (80 km) to get to the edge of the fires of hell. But in parts of the ocean floor, the Earth’s crust is less than one mile thick. That is to say that from the ocean floor to the shores of hell is about one mile (1.6 km).

Scientists have discovered cracks on the ocean floor where fire was leaking out.  Around these fire-breathing vents of the crust they found Riftia, the eight-foot long giant tube worms, found no other place in the world! (The Deep Sea, by Joseph Wallace, p. 39). 

And Jesus Christ said, "Where THEIR WORM dieth not, and the fire is not quenched" (Mk. 9:46).

Caspar Peucer, a famous fourteenth century astronomer and physician, claims that "fearful howlings, weeping and gnashing of teeth" could be heard "for many miles. . ." as these volcanoes erupted: "Out of the bottomless abyss of Heklafell, or rather out of Hell itself, rise melancholy cries and loud wailings, so that these can be heard for many miles around . . . there may be heard in the mountain fearful howlings, weeping and gnashing of teeth" (Haraldur Sigurdsson, Melting the Earth, The History of Ideas on Volcanic Eruptions, p. 73).

There are others who believe they have heard "cries and screaming" coming from volcanoes. Most have tried to ignore the obvious. Some simply explain the "sounds of hell" to some rational meaning.

"The fearsome noises that issued from some of their volcanoes were certainly thought to be the screams of tormented souls in the fires of hell below" (Haraldur Sigurdsson, Melting the Earth, The History of Ideas on Volcanic Eruptions, p. 73).

Hear this: Inside this earth, this very moment, there are millions of lost, tormented souls, burning, weeping, and wailing, without any hope whatsoever!

Everything we know, and everything we observe echo the truth of a place called hell.

Revelation 14:10 says, " . . . and he shall be tormented with fire and BRIMSTONE . . ."

Job 18:21 talks of the " . . . PLACE of him that knoweth not God."

Job 18:15 describes how his dwelling will be decorated, " . . . BRIMSTONE shall be scattered upon his habitation."

Do you know what brimstone is? Brimstone is sulfur. Molten sulphur assumes a dark red colour at temperatures above 200 degrees C (293 degrees F). This is probably the reason why the colour of the Sea of Hell fire is dark red.

And do you know where brimstone is found? It is found inside the earth!

According to the book on Volcanoes by Pierre Kohler (p. 43), when Mt. St Helens erupted in 1980, 150,000 tons of sulfurous gas was ejected!

"Volcanoes” may be more like hell than anyone realized.  Volcanic eruptions cause or allow streams of molten sulphur, which burns up before it can be preserved for posterity, new research in the journal of Geology shows" (Nature, Science Update, July 22, 2002).

What is a Volcano? Volcano is a vent in the earth’s crust through which lava (the molten fluid rock that issues from a volcanic vent), stream, ashes etc., are expelled, either continuously or at irregular intervals.

Lava, rocks, dust, ash and assorted gases are some of the materials expelled through a volcanic vent in the earth’s crust.

The lava flows like a thick, sticky liquid or explosive where fragmented lava explodes out of a vent.

Thousands of years ago, the Bible described a place called hell in the heart of the earth that matches exactly what science is discovering today.

Geologists dug into hell! In Amos 9:2 God said, “Though they dig into hell, thence shall mine hand take them; though they climb up to heaven, thence will I bring them down.”

Researchers drilled through the gates of hell and recorded the screams of the damned! The following article appeared in the well-respected Finland newspaper, Ammenusastia. “A geological group accompanied by geologists and other scientists were working on a drilling project in remote Siberia. While drilling the hole, they discovered at an approximate depth of 12 kilometers, that the drill hand entered an open space, a ‘pocket’ beneath the earth’s crust. Interested in finding out more of the strange ‘pocket’ of space, they took the temperature readings that were reported to be as high as 2,000 degrees Fahrenheit. 

Also eager to gain any other information about the pit they decided to record the sounds from below in relation to plate movement down the shaft. However, while lowering the special microphone into the deep hole, the team noticed strange noises which they attributed to equipment problems. When they adjusted the equipment, however, they were terrified at what they heard.

What they were recording from the depths of this pit were sounds of horrifying screams and blood curdling cries from what could only be assumed to be the souls of the dead being tortured in hell. They believed that they had indeed drilled into Hell within the belly of the Earth. And out of fear, they abandoned the project, capping the hole permanently.”

Dr. Azzacov was recorded to have said, “As a communist I don’t believe in Heaven or the Bible but as a scientist I now believe in Hell, needless to say we were shocked to make such a discovery. But we know what we saw and we know what we heard. And we are absolutely convinced that we drilled through the gates of hell!”

The above report is a clear evidence of the Bible description of Hell. Our imaginations cannot comprehend how horrible hell is.

Here on earth we tend to think in time spans that have a beginning and an end. There is no end in hell. It is FOREVER and ever. When a soul arrives in hell, there is no more hope, no life, no love.

The Bible warns in Psalm 9:17, you will not only be in hell, you will BE TURNED INTO HELL! You will literally BE HELL!

“The wicked shall be turned into hell, and all the nations that forget God” (Ps. 9:17).

What could possibly be worth eternity in hell? Hell is forever! 

All who enter hell abandon all hope! The horror of hell for even for one second is unbearable, and it is forever. 

No wonder Jesus Christ said in Mark 8:36: "For what shall it profit a man, if he shall gain the whole world, and lose his own soul? Or what shall a man give in exchange for his soul?" (Mk. 8:36)

God has something far better than words can describe for those who love Him. 1 Corinthians 2:9 says: ". . . Eye hath not seen, nor ear heard, neither have entered into the heart of man, the things which God hath prepared for them that love Him" (1 Cor. 2:9-10).

Friend, there is a place called hell! It is in the heart of the earth. And, if you continually refuse God's gift of eternal life through Jesus Christ, just as sure as you live and breathe, one day you will wake up in hell!

Don't wait until you die to find out the truth about Hell! Proverbs 27:1 says, "Boast not thyself of tomorrow: for thou KNOWEST NOT what a day may bring forth."

Hurry beloved! Time is running out! Don’t be caught dead without Jesus Christ in your life because Christ in you is the only hope of glory (Col. 1:27).  

Don’t be caught dead with your garment of righteousness stained. So hurry and make peace with God right now! Do not postpone it. Tomorrow may be too late!
