THE WORKS OF THE HOLY SPIRIT

Last Sunday, we concluded our discussions on “THE PERSONALITY OF THE HOLY SPIRIT!”

Anything you do in this life without the help of the Holy Spirit is regarded by God the Father as self-righteousness. That implies that the Holy Spirit does a lot of works in our lives. Today we want to look at “THE WORKS OF THE HOLY SPIRIT.”

God said, “This is the Word of the Lord unto Zerubbabel, saying, Not by might, nor by power, but by My Spirit” (Zech. 4:6).

THE POWER OF PRAISE AND WORSHIP

Today, we want to look at “THE POWER OF PRAISE AND WORSHIP.” Rejoice in the Lord alway: and again I say, Rejoice” (Phil. 4:4). In 1 Thessalonians 5:16 the Bible says, “Rejoice evermore.”

Why rejoice? “…for the joy of the Lord is your strength” (Neh. 8:10).

Do you know that God created you to praise and worship Him? In Isaiah 43:21 God said, This people have I formed for Myself; they shall shew forth My praise.”

Therefore, it is the responsibility of everything God created to praise and worship Him. In Psalm 150:6 the Bible instructs us saying, “Let every thing that hath breath praise the Lord…”

When we praise and worship God, we are offering spiritual sacrifices to Him.

Hebrews 13:15 says, “By Him therefore, let us offer the sacrifice of praise to God continually, that is, the fruit of our lips giving thanks to His name.”

THE HOLY SPIRIT IS GOD!

Last Sunday, we learnt from the Scriptures that the Holy Spirit is a Person. Today, we are going to see that “the Holy Spirit is God.”

a) The Holy Spirit is God because the Bible calls Him God.

In Creation: In Genesis 1:1-3 the Scriptures say, “In the beginning God created the heavens and the earth. 2 The earth was without form, and void; and darkness was on the face of the deep. And the Spirit of God was hovering over the face of the waters. 3 Then God said, "Let there be light"; and there was light.

THE HOLY SPIRIT IS A PERSON!

We have established from the Scriptures that the only way to overcome “The Practices of the Body” is by walking in the Spirit.

“For if ye live after the flesh, ye shall die: but if ye through the Spirit do mortify the deeds (practices) of the body, ye shall live” (Rom. 8:13).

“Walk in the Spirit, and ye shall not fulfil the lust of the flesh” (Gal. 5:16).

Notice that the Spirit talked about in the above verses is the Holy Spirit.

WALKING IN THE SPIRIT DEMANDS TAKING UP YOUR CROSS

We have established from the Scriptures that the only way to overcome “The Practices of the Body” is by walking in the Spirit (Rom. 8:13; Gal. 5:16).

Last Sunday we looked at the first part of the demands of walking in the Spirit. So today, we shall look at the second “DEMAND OF WALKING IN THE SPIRIT!”

Jesus said, Whosoever will come after Me, let him…(2) take up his cross, and follow Me” (Mk. 8:34).

To walk in the Spirit, you must willingly take up your Cross (Lk. 14:27).

WALKING IN THE SPIRIT DEMANDS SELF DENIAL

Firstly, we have established from the Scriptures that the only way to deal with Mr. Flesh is by going to the Cross.

We know that God the Father has already accomplished this for us by nailing “Mr. Flesh” to the Cross at Calvary.

“And they that are Christ's have crucified the flesh with the affections and lusts” (Gal. 5:24).

Last Sunday, we established that the only way to overcome “The Practices of the Body” is by walking in the Spirit.

For if ye live after the flesh, (according to the suggestions of the flesh) ye shall die: but if ye through the Spirit do mortify the deeds of the body, ye shall live” (Rom. 8:13).

“…Walk in the Spirit, and ye shall not fulfil the lust (desire) of the flesh” (Gal. 5:16).
